Girl’s varsity soccer lost 2-1 in a tragic but hard fought game against Thomas Jefferson HS Tuesday night. The Lady Raiders, after falling behind 1-0 early in the second half, leveled the score with a penalty kick from sophomore Chloe Beverina. Throughout the game, Beverina displayed her ability at containing the Jefferson players she was tasked with defending, helped support the attacking players with had wonderful passes and in the 73rd minute added the equalizer after the Jefferson,scored a penalty kick given after TJ’s keeper fouled sophomore Mel Albright.. Despite their best efforts, Stuart’s defense allowed a goal in the last 30 seconds of the second overtime period, giving Jefferson the win.

“I think we played well,” said sophomore Julia Utting, “but there’s always things we can improve on. I think a big thing from that game is we just can’t let the refs get to us.” The girls face Falls Church next at home on Friday at 5:30 as part of a varsity double header.
