Joining sports aren’t the only extracurricular activities at Stuart that participate in competitions. Students that are apart of Clubs like MSA and FBLA compete against different schools in our district.
The Muslim Student Association club had a very successful weekend at MIST 2015, “It’s an opportunity for Muslim youth in the DMV area to learn about Islam while displaying their talents through competitions such as improv, short film, art etc.” said president of MSA Mahnoor Khurshid .
Maab Hassan, Ramza Khurshid, Zhanib Kalsoom, Myriem Chatib and Nada Atwa came in 2nd place for Sisters Improv, Yasmeen K, Yasmeen Hamadan, Baraa A, Reem A and Dowha Karar came in 3rd place for community service.
Saleh Amireh and Laith A also came in 3rd place for Mobile Applications. Finally, Yousef Atwa, Ibrahim B, Aiyha A, Alaa Ali, Nada Atwa, Myriem Chatib, Maab Hassan, and Mohamed Elasha placed 4th for short film. “I’m sad to think my 4 years being apart of MIST are over and hope JEB Stuart’s MSA kicks butt for years to come” said Mahnoor.
Many students competed at the Regional FBLA competitions this year. Tuguldur Enkhtaivan competed in Securities and Investments, Lyda Suarez also placed 1st in Future Business Leader “ Even though it was scary at first, it was a good experience for future job interviews” said Suarez. Saleh Amireh placed 3rd in Cyber Security , “It was more challenging than I thought it’d be, but that improved my will to succeed” said Amireh. Enkhtaivan will be moving on to compete at the FBLA State Leadership Conference it will be held April 10-11 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Reston. “It feels great to win my competition; I want to have a career in business so I guess it’s good to know that I’m on the right path. I look forward to competing at the state level and hopefully moving on to Nationals.” said Enkhtaivan.
On March 8, Science Olympiad placed 11th out of 23 teams, which will take them to States on April 11,2015 . The Following students placed and won medals at Regionals; Marianna Karagiannis and Rachel Mangum 5th for Fossils, Karagiannis 4th for Scrambler, Karagiannis and Joshua Okada 3rd for Geologic Mapping. The team members attending States are Vincent Guevara, Rachel Mangum, Erick Torres, Iqra Choudhry, Khadra Omar, Sarah, and Karagiannis. “We’ve each been studying and a number of our members got medals at regionals. We hope to do even better at States!” said Omar.
