The girls’ varsity softball team took on its rival the Falls Church in the team’s last game before the Conference 13 tournament. The Raiders got on the board early: senior Nadine Abusbitan and sophomore Isabelle Nadler brought home the first runs for the Raiders. The Jaguars would respond and tie up the game after a fielding error.
The Lady Raiders opened the second inning with a bang, loading up the bases and eventually getting three more runs on the board. In the bottom of the second inning, senior pitcher Shi-Anne Campbell caught a line drive to pull off a spectacular double play, ending the second inning with a 5-2 lead.
Senior Iman Ghousheh came on to pinch hit for the Raiders in the top of the third inning, Ghousheh would steal second and third base before reaching home from third base on the next pitch after an error by the Jaguars.
With a 8-4 lead to start the 7th and final inning, the Raiders padded the statsheet and capitalized on the poor pitching and fielding performance by the Jaguars. The team poured in 12 more runs and a shutout in the bottom of the 7th to give the Raiders a 20-4 victory.
“It was a great end to the regular season. Not only did we play well individually, we played amazing as a team,” said Abusbitan.
The Raiders take on the Lee Lancers in the first round of the conference tournament on Monday.
