Coachella recently released the lineup for this year’s concert. The concert will be held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. The concerts will be split into two separate weekends, the first weekend will be on April 15, 16, and 17 and the second weekend will be on April 22, 23, and 24.
There will be many popular artists performing at the event such as Ellie Goulding, M83, Sia, and Halsey. The rock bands included LCD Soundsystem, Guns N’ Roses, and The 1975. Along with indie singers Sufjan Stevens and James Bay. There will be rap artists G-Eazy, Rae Sremmurd, Ice Cube, A$AP Rocky, and Joey Bada$$. The other favorite genre of music that Coachella is known for having is electronic and dance. Some electronic producers performing at the shows are DJ Snakehips, Jack Ü, DJ Mustard, Disclosure, Zedd, Calvin Harris, Major Lazer, the Chainsmokers, and Flume. Many other musicians will be at Coachella as well.
“It seems like an impressive array of many talents in different areas of music,” said sophomore Eric Torres.
What has rock fans most excited is the reunion of Guns N’ Roses. Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan will be rejoining the band to headline at Coachella. This will be the first time the band will perform together since 1993.
“I’d be excited to see Guns N’ Roses. I have mixed emotions [about the reunion]. This is because when the band ended they had bad blood as Axl and Slash really didn’t like each other. So I’m hoping they’ve put that behind them and give a good performance,” said freshman Humza Shaikh.
Most of the genres of music that is performed at the events are rock, hip hop, indie, and EDM. In recent years Coachella has transitioned to having more pop musicians on stage.
“I would want to go to see Ice Cube and A$AP Rocky. I don’t like the other people that are performing because it’s mainstream,” said freshman Melanie Hernandez.
“I don’t like some of the artists are there. I’m not surprised that some of the artists are going to be there,” said sophomore Thomas Cluck.
As well as the musical performances Coachella is also known for their art sculptures. While Coachella focuses on the music and art it’s also became a place to make a fashion statement. This will be the seventeenth annual Coachella concert at the Empire Polo Club since 1999, except in 2000 when there was no concert. Although this year’s Coachella’s performers are giving teens mixed feelings, they seem to want to go regardless if they like the artists.
